Practically each one of us has experienced personally or observed in others a scary and exhausting phenomenon - consciousness stuck in a LOOP, where some painful and powerful thoughts are running in circles. The trigger for getting stuck in the LOOP is always some kind of a real and very painful event (not taking into consideration the cases of paranoia). When consciousness returns to the painful, emotionally saturated thoughts, the LOOP becomes deeper and larger. It is similar to the constant tearing off of the crust of the chicken pox pustule in childhood - the habit that results in the deep marks on one's face forever. The mechanism of the LOOP is the same - as tearing off of the new crust makes the level of the new epidermis deeper and deeper forming a dent, the tearing off the "scabs of the soul" by emotionally recreating (rethinking) horrible and painful event makes the LOOP deeper and larger. The subsequent LOOP's deepening and widening forcibly (and unconsciously) captures more and more of the brain areas through different associations. Then the strangest thing happens - if initially you needed a direct association with a painful event, later everything in your life begins to be perceived FROM THE LOOP. In worst cases it becomes state of a zombie - the living dead when there is no person with real life, only the shadow of reality over the LOOP, but it's so far.. For basic survival one must (with the problem's understanding and acknowledgement) immediately and forcefully apply the special effort to STOP the formation and deepening of the LOOP. The only way to heal the BRAIN is by not allowing yourself to go into the LOOP again. NEVER EVER.
I didn't misstate that or apply it too loose - it's the BRAIN. Not the mind. Happening in the LOOP's area, the brain activity becomes visible on the special functional tomographic scanners (f-MRI) as a pathological activity. The only way to make this area of the pathological activity to disintegrate is to FULLY STOP its revitalization, cutting off everything that feeds and fuels it. This approach is fully analogous to one of the most effective and up-to-date cancer treatments by special chemo-therapy. This chemo makes impossible for any new blood vessels to be formed, including the blood vessels required for the cancer's growth. So the cancer shrinks or hopefully even dies, while being kept on this "diet".
How to apply the same remedy to the always-harmful LOOP?
First, setup (or assign, activate) The Consciousness's Controller. He has to be and will be with you always. Visualize him however you want. Controller can be any authority figure, whom you absolutely trust or someone you think is your guardian angel. One girl who've successfully applied this technique, imagined a real ticket controller (conductor) from the commuter's train in France (he had impressive appearance and a luxurious mustache). Someone imagined Carlson (this man wanted to stop thinking about food). The Controller must be strict but fair!
Second, all your thoughts must be "sifted" (CONTROLLED by quality) by the Controller. No thought can come through the gate of the ACTIVE thinking "train" without going through the Controller first. Any thought, attempting to turn the "train" into the LOOP, is stopped by the Controller and is FORSED to leave the train.
Third, you have to invent "alternative end of the journey" after the "free rider thoughts" have been kicked out off the train. A simple rejection (blockage) of these thoughts provides the less stable and weaker effect. For example, you can recall some hysterically funny events from yours past, episodes of your favorite movies, jokes, anecdotes, which for some personal reasons are always funny for you. It can be anything - even the funny kids cartoons, too! For some people pictures of powerful manifestations of Nature are the most effective: the tsunami wall; the eruption of the geysers or the avalanches; battles of the powerful animals, etc.
This should be your personal collection of "the Brakes to Stop the Train of your thoughts running into the Abyss". You must stop all thoughts that slip into the LOOP. Your thoughts, your LOOP - your choice.
If the Controller captures a "bad" thought, you have to start playing funny episodes in your head, anecdote (told by a friend), a funny cartoon or images of a volcanoes, elephants' battles, etc. And the most important thing is - you have to do it immediately. You can imagine anything you want, but on one condition - it has to be funny or inspired by the power of Nature! It helps you to emotionally lift yourself UP - as far UP as possible from the LOOP that drags you down in the bottomless black swamp of the helpless obsessive dependence.
The Controller must stand on guard 24/7! Even before you go to sleep you have to give him the assignment - "KEEP WATCHING - GUARD ME!". Imagine him standing at the post near your bed. At night the LOOP is more aggressive and dangerous than during the day, because sub consciousness and consciousness are fighting and the LOOP can revitalize. Controller WORKS in your dreams, too, no matter how crazy it sounds. If you are serious about this visualization and the Controller's task, he'll check the contents of your dreams, and there will be some "arrests" of thoughts, that try to push you into the LOOP.
The main thing again - remember to switch from "loopiness" immediately. As soon as you realize, what's going on with you, brace yourself, keeping your brain out of the LOOP. LOOPS have the distinct quality - if you don't go into it, the loop would fill up and disappear very fast. And even faster they'll stop being so mystical and horrible.
We create our own "Road to Calvary". As we stay on it, we feel the inevitability of the way. However, forced and controlled by YOURSELF interruption of the usual thoughts and associations slipping back into the LOOP immediately gives you a sense of power over the situation, the feeling of control over your own destiny and ability to choose the road yourself, not just following someone else's terrible path with your eyes closed.
As an option, to start with, you can write yourself a note and read it until the tsunami of the LOOP subsides. Another option is to imagine the LOOP as a nasty stinking ditch with manure and poisonous toads. You can have fun with this - create for yourself a picture of the LOOP, at the sight of which you feel nausea. Everyone of us has a nausea-causing association - tie it up to the visualization of the LOOP, use it.
ATTACHMENT. For those who in a painful emotional state might interfere with the work of the Controller - use another version of the Controller - Controller-Delayer (working with a small pause), similar to the effect of a censor button "beep" during live broadcasts. You will have a small pause, during which the censor will have time to "beep" out the "bad word".
Imagine that any rapid emotion, ready to break into uncontrollable avalanche, stumbles forward on the barrier (you should "feel" the sudden push on your chest). Emotion in this case is a wild horse, contained by a fence to not cause any harm to itself or others. Throw over the bridle, saddle up, jump into the saddle, stretch the bridle and carefully open the gate. To start with, visualize every action in this sequence and during that time (in parallel, on a subconscious level), make RIGHT decisions. Another hint from the subconscious will be the color of the horse.
Depending on the horse color define your emotions and the consequences of releasing them from the "enclosure". Some horses are better not to be let out at all. EVER. In order to save yourself from shame and embarrassment.
